What is Classical Art?

Classical art is any art that has been produced for hundreds of years and has survived to the present day. This can include both paintings, sculptures and other forms of art. The reason why it has survived is because it has remained in good condition and is still popular with people today. There are many different styles of classical art and some of these styles have changed over time. Some of the more famous styles include Baroque, Rococo, Romanticism and Neoclassicism.

Baroque

This style was very popular in the 17th century. It had a lot of influence from the Renaissance and was influenced by Italian painters such as Caravaggio. The style used a lot of movement and was often painted in bright colors.

Rococo

This style came about in the late 18th century and was very similar to Baroque art. However, it was much lighter in color and was often decorated with flowers. The style became popular because of the way it reflected the life of the upper classes at the time.

Romanticism

This style came about during the early 19th century and was based around romantic themes. These themes included love and nature. This style was very popular in Europe but did not have too much influence outside of Europe.

Neoclassicism

This style came about after Romanticism and was inspired by Greek and Roman art. This style was very similar to Baroques art but was very different because it was based around history and mythology. The style was popular in France and Britain and influenced many artists who were interested in history.

These are just four of the many styles of classical art that have been produced throughout the centuries. Many artists have used this style of art to create paintings and sculptures that reflect their own views of the world.

The Van Gearys started as casual collectors and appreciators of artistic intricacy for their collections. They would search far and wide, scouring the world, looking through different shops, thrift stores, yard sales, and storage auctions to find oddities of the most exemplary order. After going through years of collecting and maintaining a plethora of different artworks, they decided to dabble in selling antiquities and enabling their Art’s access to the world. Using their experiential and theoretical knowledge to the test, they decided to delve deeper by opening their own auction gallery.
